Federal ministers, local members of parliament and the provincial government announced on October 30 that the federal government will contribute $500 million toward upgrades at Winnipeg’s North End wastewater treatment plant.
The provincial government had pledged an equal amount three months earlier, raising the combined public funding to $1 billion for the $1.5 billion project aimed at modernising the city’s sewage treatment facilities.
The investment is intended to support the planned improvements to the plant’s capacity and environmental performance.
