On September 25, 2026, Winnipeg city council gave its approval to develop the Winnipeg Community Crisis Response Model, creating a fourth response option for 911 calls that involve mental health or addiction concerns. The new model will operate alongside the Winnipeg Police Service, Winnipeg Fire Department and Winnipeg Ambulance Service.
The purpose of the model is to provide better assistance to callers dealing with mental health and addiction issues. At present, such calls are managed by police, fire or ambulance services, and the added specialized crisis response seeks to address those situations more effectively.
