A bomb threat called into Billerica Memorial High School early Thursday morning triggered a police sweep and interrupted the start of classes. The call was received at about 6:15 a.m., and the district described the incident as a swatting event.
The response extended to at least one other school in Salem, where classes were also affected. Local police conducted safety checks at both locations while school district officials coordinated the disruption response.
Authorities note that similar threats across Massachusetts have previously led to evacuations and thorough safety sweeps of school facilities.
