Boston police detained two teenagers on Friday night after they broke into a Dorchester towing facility and tried to steal three scooters. The suspects entered Peter's Towing, located at 150 Freeport Street, at approximately 7:06 p.m. on September 18, 2026, and were apprehended shortly thereafter.
Investigators said the teens targeted the scooters because they were among the vehicles police have recently been confiscating in the neighborhood. The break-in appears to have been an attempt to reclaim the property for personal use or resale, though authorities have not released further motive.
The arrest follows a broader enforcement effort by Boston police in Dorchester, where officers have been seizing illegal mopeds, scooters and motorcycles. In the week preceding the incident, law enforcement officials confiscated a total of 27 such vehicles, reflecting heightened scrutiny of unregistered two-wheeled transport.
Peter's Towing, the business whose lot was entered, reported the incident to authorities after noticing missing inventory. Police responded quickly, locating the two teenagers and securing the three scooters that had been targeted. No injuries were reported, and the remaining inventory at the tow lot was left untouched.
The two teens are being held pending further investigation. Their identities have not been released, and no formal charges have been filed beyond the break-in and attempted theft.
