At 10:48 a.m. on October 1, 2026, a driver hit a bench outside Faulkner Hospital in Boston’s Jamaica Plain neighborhood. The collision killed the person seated on the bench, ruptured a gas main and sent the vehicle into the adjacent Belkin House, prompting an evacuation of that building.

Emergency responders arrived to contain the gas leak and secure the area. Faulkner Hospital was also evacuated as a precaution after the damaged gas line was identified.

One fatality was confirmed and no additional injuries were reported.
