MassDOT announced that construction on the West-East Rail modernization will start in 2027 in Springfield. The work will upgrade tracks, signals and related infrastructure to reduce conflicts between freight and passenger trains.
The effort is a key phase of the Springfield Area Track Reconfiguration Project, which aims to modernize the region’s rail network.
