In Suffolk Superior Court, negligence lawsuits were lodged against the owners and managers of the Newbury Boston hotel and the maintenance contractor they employed, alleging that faulty upkeep of the kitchen exhaust system caused a fire. A separate suit names a seafood distributor and the freezer system provider, claiming a new freezer system failed and melted tons of frozen fish.
The incidents occurred at the hotel on 15 Arlington St. in Boston's Back Bay during October 2026. The plaintiffs are seeking compensation for the fire damage and the loss of the frozen fish.
Both cases are being heard in the same court.
