Somerville city officials will hold a pumpkin‑smashing event on Nov. 7, 2026, and will place ten food‑scrap collection bins around the city to support composting of the pumpkins.
The bins are intended to help residents divert pumpkins from the trash and add them to the municipal compost stream, expanding the city’s waste‑reduction program and composting options.
