Alderman Brian Hopkins withdrew his proposal to remove the landmark designation of the Cortland Bridge on October 13, 2026, after the city pledged to repair the bridge by 2028.
The bridge, which connects Lincoln Park and Bucktown, has been closed to vehicle traffic because of extensive maintenance problems.
Hopkins said construction on the bridge is moving forward, making the removal of its landmark status unnecessary.
