On Wednesday, Chicago business organizations announced they will block the mayor’s renewed corporate head tax and a proposed 20% tax on cloud services. The mayor’s $17.6 billion spending plan was presented to a city council that has already opposed reinstating the corporate head tax, creating a pre‑election budget impasse.

The city council’s existing opposition to the head tax adds pressure to resolve the budget, while the Civic Federation President Joe Ferguson is among the officials monitoring the dispute.

Both the corporate head tax and the cloud services levy face organized resistance from local business groups as the city works toward a funding solution.
