Chicago officials are preparing to begin a pilot program that will test new gunshot detection technology in six South and West Side wards. The effort is intended to evaluate a possible replacement for the ShotSpotter system, which the city stopped using nearly two years ago.

The pilot involves coordination between city officials, aldermen and the Chicago Police Department as they assess the new system’s effectiveness in the selected neighborhoods.
