On October 8, 2026, members of the Chicago City Council voted unanimously to extend the city’s Violence Against Women Task Force and to begin its second phase.
The vote, taken in conjunction with the Committee on Public Safety, is intended to strengthen municipal efforts to combat domestic violence throughout Cook County.
The task force, originally established to address domestic abuse, will now continue and expand under the newly launched phase.
