Chicago could adopt a rule that would obligate social media influencers who receive payment for political content to disclose their campaign connections. The proposal follows the Chicago Teachers Union and Mayor Brandon Johnson using paid influencers in their respective battles over the city school board and the mayoral reelection campaign without revealing the paid nature of the videos.

The measure would require any influencer producing political messaging for compensation to clearly label the relationship between the influencer and the campaign.
