The Cook County College Teachers Union Local 1600 said its members will begin a strike on Oct. 19, 2026 unless a new contract is reached. About 1,500 faculty and professional staff, representing 96% of voting members, are covered by the notice.

The union has been in talks with the City Colleges of Chicago system, but the negotiations have not produced an agreement.
