Chicago Public Schools expedited overdue payments to high school football referees, clearing the way for varsity games scheduled on October 1 and 2, 2026.

The payment settlement ended a strike that had prompted CPS to cancel several freshman and junior varsity football contests earlier in the week.

Breyion Hutchinson said the resolution allowed the varsity matches to proceed as planned.
