Preliminary figures released by Chicago Public Schools officials indicate that district enrollment has decreased by 11,500 students, bringing the total to 304,700. This count represents the lowest enrollment level the system has seen in more than twenty years.

The decline follows two years in which enrollment remained steady or rose slightly, a trend that had been supported by an influx of immigrant students during the 2023‑2024 period. The latest numbers show a sharp reversal of that earlier growth.
