The Shedd Aquarium confirmed that a beluga whale rescued from Canada died at the facility on October 9, 2026. This loss represents the fourth rescued beluga whale to die while under the aquarium’s care.
The aquarium also noted that a resident beluga whale recently passed away from old age, adding to the recent losses among its cetacean collection.
Shedd officials have been overseeing the care of beluga whales rescued from Canada, a program that has now seen four of those animals die at the Chicago location.
