Inspector General David Glockner announced plans to explore artificial intelligence for city services. Mayor Brandon Johnson simultaneously proposed a one‑year moratorium on new or expanded data centers.

The AI effort is intended to improve the speed and cost of service delivery. The moratorium addresses public concerns about the impact of data centers on the power grid, water supply and environment.

Both proposals come as Chicago confronts budget shortfalls and rising opposition to data centers, leading officials to consider AI solutions and regulatory limits.
