A Cook County jury on Tuesday ruled that Chicago police officers were not responsible for the death of a 55‑year‑old woman who was struck by a driver fleeing a police pursuit, and it dismissed the family’s lawsuit seeking damages.

The family had argued that the police chase directly led to the fatal collision. Earlier, the Chicago City Council declined to approve a settlement of $8.25 million with the family.

With the jury’s decision, no liability was assigned to the officers and the lawsuit was thrown out.
