The Hialead Police Department issued a warning that scammers are contacting residents and claiming to be law‑enforcement officers. The callers say the victims have outstanding warrants, pending cases or unpaid bonds and demand payment.
Authorities noted that the fraudsters often use real officer names, badge numbers and spoofed caller ID to seem authentic, but emphasized that police never call to request money.
