A 56-year‑old man from Quebec was taken into custody by the Thunder Bay Police Service on fraud charges after authorities said he operated a telephone scheme that targeted seniors.
Police allege the suspect collected money from victims by posing as their relatives in what is commonly known as a grandparent scam.
Grandparent scams typically involve callers impersonating family members to persuade older adults to send cash or personal information.
