The Saint‑Laurent borough council approved a bylaw on Sunday that bars electric scooters and similar motorized personal mobility devices from all public spaces it controls, while still permitting them on bike lanes and streets where the posted speed limit does not exceed 50 km/h.
The decision comes after a sharp increase in injuries among young people using e‑scooters, leading the council to tighten rules in order to improve safety.
Under the new regulation, the devices may continue to be used on designated cycling routes and slower streets, but are prohibited in parks, plazas and other municipal areas.
