The Metropolitan Transportation Authority reports that all five elevators installed at the 161st Street‑Yankee Stadium subway station have been out of service for months, and one is expected to stay closed until winter 2027 because of power problems.
Several of the elevators were disabled during the baseball season as demand surged, while power issues forced the prolonged shutdown of one unit.
The Bronx’s busiest subway stop received the elevators earlier in 2026 to improve station accessibility.
