The District Department of Transportation announced it will levy fines against e‑bike and scooter companies that do not promptly remove devices left improperly on public spaces. The agency also said its Low‑income Customer Program will be changed to a monthly credit plan.

The decision comes after complaints about abandoned scooters and e‑bikes creating clutter and safety concerns on sidewalks, leading the department to tighten enforcement of shared micro‑mobility devices.
