Montreal city council approved a motion, with amendments, on Monday requiring the head of the SPVM to appear before council to answer serious misconduct allegations.
The decision follows reports that officers at two SPVM stations were accused of serious wrongdoing.
Council member Fady Dagher took part in the vote that adopted the motion.
The approved motion obliges the police chief to attend a council hearing on the matter.
