Dipika Damerla, a mayoral candidate in Mississauga, urged the city to establish an independent auditor general.

She referenced other major Ontario municipalities that already have independent auditor generals and said Mississauga has needed one for a long time.

The call was made weeks before the municipal election in which Damerla is running for mayor.
