A Toronto police officer suffered serious injuries Saturday morning while trying to detain suspects in a chase that began near the intersection of Avenue Road and Wilson Avenue in North York. The incident occurred just before 10:45 a.m. after officers responded to a call reporting a suspicious incident in a residential neighbourhood.
Police arrived on the scene and observed two vehicles attempting to leave the area. Officers moved to intercept the vehicles, and a pursuit developed through the neighbourhood. During the effort to stop the fleeing cars, the officer engaged the suspects in an attempt to make an arrest. The confrontation resulted in the officer being seriously injured.
Emergency medical personnel were dispatched to the location and provided treatment before transporting the officer to a nearby hospital for further care. The two vehicles involved in the chase fled the scene and have not been recovered at the time of reporting.
