The Ontario provincial government announced on August 10, 2026 that it will fund a $1.2 million restoration project for Heart Lake Conservation Park in Brampton.
The funding will be applied to a range of ecological work aimed at improving the park’s natural environment, including habitat rehabilitation, shoreline stabilization and invasive‑species management.
Officials said the investment is intended to preserve the ecological functions of the lake and surrounding wetlands, protect biodiversity and enhance recreational opportunities for local residents.
Heart Lake Conservation Park, a municipal green space managed by the City of Brampton, has been identified in recent assessments as needing ecological rehabilitation. The park features a 15‑hectare lake, wooded trails and a network of wetlands that support a variety of wildlife. The province’s contribution joins municipal efforts to address erosion, water quality concerns and the spread of non‑native plant species that have affected the area in recent years.
Work will involve removing invasive plants, replanting native trees and shrubs, and installing erosion control structures along the lake’s perimeter. Monitoring stations will be set up to track water quality and biodiversity changes over the life of the project.
The City of Brampton has pledged to complement the provincial grant with additional municipal resources, ensuring that the park remains accessible and safe for families, walkers and cyclists who use the trails year‑round.
The project is scheduled to begin later this year, with the province monitoring progress through its environmental stewardship program. Completion is expected to deliver a healthier ecosystem and a more resilient park for future generations.
