Ontario announced on Tuesday that a large portion of its northern boreal forest, an area larger than the city of Toronto, will be placed under protection to block industrial development.

The protected region lies within the province's extensive northern boreal zone, which stretches across northern Ontario and provides essential wildlife habitat and significant carbon storage.
